I have spent my career as a public school teacher. For 23 years I taught high school English and Speech. Since 2017 I have taught English at a community college in the Los Angels area. I love to learn from and work with students, but it seems to me that high school as we know it needs some updating. Here I explore some gaps and flaws in the system and celebrate some successes. My comments are based on my experience, those of my husband, parents, colleagues, and my child--all of whom have spent years attending and/or working in public schools.
